If you're
marketing online, you have no doubt heard that the
money is in the list. In other words, if you can
build a successful email list, and consistently
send messages that encourage your readers to come
to your web site and buy your products, you will
be much more successful in your web site marketing
than you would be without a list.
Your site's primary goal is to sell your product.
You do this with information, and in many cases
your visitors will absorb the information on your
site, make an instant decision, and purchase your
product.
Many people, however, are not ready to buy the
first time they visit your site. Some of these
people will bookmark your site and come back,
but many will not.
How can you reach these people and convince them
to come back and purchase? This is where email
marketing thrives. By offering these people a
free report or other information in exchange for
their email address, you get the opportunity to
continue marketing to them.
Your email campaign should consist of a very
good, informational newsletter, and possibly some
special offers emailed at regular intervals.
The conventional wisdom is that it often takes
seven contacts to convince someone to buy from
you. This may be more or less accurate for your
particular niche, but the important point is that
continued contact will allow you to make more
sales.
Your newsletter is your primary email marketing
tool. It doesn't have to be long; in fact, shorter
is generally better. It should contain informative
articles about your niche, and be short on sales
and long on information.
Once you've packed your newsletter with great
information, consider offering a promotional offer
for your product, answering questions from readers,
and including an editor's note in which you talk
a little about yourself and your product.
People want to do business with people they know,
like and trust, and your email newsletter is the
way to build that relationship. You have the perfect
opportunity to let people get to know you, and
build awareness of your web site and your product.
You can supplement your newsletter with promotional
offers for readers, with limited time sale prices
on your products or bonuses for buying. These
offers should be limited in number and frequency,
so that your newsletter is the main thing your
readers see. But adding occasional offers can
build your sales as your readers start to expect
your promotional emails.
A successful email campaign can turn any web
site into a sales machine by helping you build
relationships and pull your readers back to your
web site on a regular basis. The old adage, "Out
of site, out of mind" is very true when it
comes to web sites. Most people move on to another
site without a backward glance. By giving them
more information and inviting them to join your
email list, you gain the opportunity to continue
contacting them.
By creating a useful newsletter they look forward
to receiving, you create a relationship, and this
relationship is key to increasing your web site's
profitability.
